The Troop Riddle
Can you solve this difficult and confusing riddle?
The troop riddle is one of the most confusing and difficult riddles ever published, everyone has a different solution.
Here's a fun riddle whose answer became a riddle, too!
WARNING: Read this riddle very carefully .... !
"Stopping along the trail to rest, Judy saw that one-third of the rest of the group from the Girl Scouts was behind her and three-fourths were ahead. Not counting Judy, what was the total number in her group?"
For this riddle we are going to tell you the answer is 13!! Now, if that satisfies you, go on to another page and start something else! However, for those of you who want to know why we would give an answer with the riddle and want to know why the answer is 13 - READ ON!
As it turns out, the answer given (13) for this riddle became a riddle of its own! Several subscribers have written about this riddle and because of that, we re-worded the riddle to read like this:
"Resting along a path, Judy noticed that she and those behind her made up 1/3 of the troop and that those ahead made up 3/4 of troop. Counting Judy, what would be the smallest number of hikers that day?"
Do you see the little differences in the second version?
We'll still maintain that the answer is 13. But HOW???

The puzzle is really a problem of semantics and not math. It can be logically solved written like so:
"Stopping along the trail to rest, Judy saw that one-third of the rest of the group from the Girl Scouts was behind and three-fourths were ahead. Not counting Judy, what was the total number in her group?"
And now we'll tell you that the answer is 15!!
But HOW can that be?
